Well, it’s my birthday – and while Shannon is going to do a post later about how we’re going to make the most bangin’ bombastic cupcakes ever (They use VODKA guys!)  I thought I’d take a minute and reflect for a while. In fact, I’ve gotta say – the 26th year was without a doubt one of the best years of my life.  I’ve grown in almost every aspect of my life – musically, personally, socially…physically (ahem), but we won’t hold that against any of you (cough, cough!)

I got married. Whoah. (Okay. This actually happened two weeks before my last birthday, but its a big enough deal, and my wife was so damn pretty that I’m gonna count it for at least that long. I mean, cmon! Look at her!)

I know right? Totally Hot.

Anywho. What else could trump that you say? Well, nothing, but I’m gonna tell you about the rest anyway. I started as the permanent Director of a Middle School Chorus in the local Montessori School. So awesome to work with such talented, really special kids every week. I joined a new band. Like, a real band with like real instruments and stuff! (For those of you who don’t know, I’ve made my living for the past three years as a professional musician with the a cappella vocal band transit) It’s called K!CK, and we play parties! Seriously, it is a TON of fun. There is nothing like standing up there and engaging in a battle of musical wills to force your audience to dance for you like a ton of puppets on the string. Wow. That sounded really maniacal, but screw it, it’s my birthday, and on your birthday you tell the truth. Or is it Christmas?

Yep.

I’ve branched out with these guys into new areas of music I never even knew I liked before. And the relationships we’ve forged in the past year are precious to me. Keith, Aimee, Eric, Tara, Christian, Adam – you guys are like family to us now, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I personally feel that family is something you Choose, particularly as you reach the age I am now.  Your family is more than your blood, it is the group of people you love hard enough to make you laugh, make you cry, and make you watch Drunk History until 2 am.  Family is cookouts and Sunday Funday and Mexican Train and I wouldn’t have it any other way. (Plus, Eric and Keith are both old enough to be my actual Fathers so I’ll take it)

I’ve rediscovered my love of hobbies, gaming, and modeling as well, which has brought a whole new slew of friends along with it. These are some seriously cool and diverse people – let me tell you. Also….slew is a funny word.  Like slaw, but ….gross. Get it?

So thanks to Patrick, for reinvigorating my fandom and always having something new to show me. Thanks to Jason for keeping me in perspective, and Chef Jason for always having a ridiculous High Five whenever I fail at something spectacularly. Thanks to Tres for always being so damn cool, and Jack for keeping your cool. Thanks to Frankie for finally getting a damn job, Danny for actually talking about Sports around the nerds, and Jamen for helping me constantly win nothing in Snapple giveaways. I love you all.

And so here we are! 27! What are we going to do about it? Well, for one, Laser Tag. That’s right. I’m a grown-ass man, and I’m playing Laser Tag for my birthday, because that is just about the most awesome thing I could come up with. And get a load of this photo I found for the invite. Oh yes.

Then I’m gonna eat cupcakes and drink beer. It is gonna be Epic. So stay trashy San Diego – It’s the Only way to Live.
